On June 5, 2009, the scouts of Troop 422 were invited to participate in the grand opening of the Firestone Service Center in Smyrna. The scouts conducted a flag ceremony that opened the event, and were on hand as the ribbon officially opening the store was cut. They met cheerleaders from the Nashville Predators and represented boy scouting as Firestone presented a $500 donation to the local Trail of Tears District of the Boy Scout Middle Tennessee Council.

At the March 30th troop meeting, Greg Upham, Smyrna's Storm Water Management Coordinator, gave a presentation to the troop on the importance of stormwater management to the city's conservation efforts. He began his presentation by discussing his time as a Boy Scout. As a challenge to the scouts, he showed his merit badge sash and asked to scouts to identify some of the older merit badges that he earned on his way to becoming an Eagle scout.
Mr. Upham then briefed the troop on the city's Municipal Separate Stormwater Sewer System (or MS4 Program) for improving the water quality of Stewart Creek and its tributaries and for heightening public awareness of the importance of water quality. He also discussed how the troop will assist the city on Earth Day by doing cleanups along the banks of Stewart Creek near the airport and municipal park. The troop thanks Mr. Upham for taking the time to teach the scouts about this important conservation effort. More information can be found on the city's web site, http://www.townofsmyrna.org/. Select Departments from the menu bar, select the link for Public Works department, then select Storm Water from the Our Divisions block in the upper left corner of the Public Works page. |
